Be careful before you pay

In April 2025 Iraq announced a temporary ban, with no end date, on workers from Bangladesh and several other countries entering for work; no lifting had been reported as of February 2026. About 35,000 foreign workers were deported in 2025, and deported workers are barred from re-entry for 2 years. An MoU was signed in October 2025, but verify the current status with BMET and the Baghdad embassy before going anywhere in Iraq, including Kurdistan.

  • Verify the agency's RL licence with BMET
  • Employer: Embassy-verified demand letter and copy of the work permit
  • Confirmed the visa is a work visa, not a visit visa
  • Know whether the job is in federal Iraq or Kurdistan, and which authority issues the permit
  • No payment without a receipt and written contract
